Wow. Have I ever learned some new things since starting Stile! One thing is never to jump the gun on publishing a book. To my defense, I had no idea of how to even do it or get started. I am learning the ropes as I go.
Living in St. John's, Newfoundland has it limitations when it comes to finding an editor. They are virtually non-existent and there is no support with an organization. I decided to take the route of having friends and family read my book to help with proofing and self publish on amazon and smashwords. My friends and family were great but definitely not editors. A retired English teacher fell into my lap and I happened to mention my book. She offered to help me with the editing. Going through the book with her, I realized how many mistakes there were! I was shocked. I had read Stile, at the very minimum, 6 times and I never picked up on them. I was mortified. I decided to stop promoting my book until the editing was done.
If you are a writer, I have two major suggestions: 1) Read your book out loud! You pick up on more. Just try a couple of chapters. You will see! 2) Wait 3-6 months before your final read. Give your brain the time off from your book before you back through it before final proofing. It needs it.
Today, I have now reposted the preview on my website of chapters 1-19. Please download and enjoy.
And bear with me...I am new at this.
